Motion Graphics and Data Visualization: shaping innovation and sustainability at Milan Digital Week

During Milan Digital Week, The Visual Agency organized an event showcasing the pivotal role of motion graphics and data visualization in making complex information accessible to wider audiences. Held at the iconic Torre Tirrena in Piazza del Liberty, our Creative Director Matteo Bonera opened the session by emphasizing the importance of innovation, technology, and sustainability for the future of digital communication.

“It is a great pleasure to host Milan Digital Week in this wonderful space, to discuss the intersection of innovation and sustainability—key themes that will shape the future of digital experiences,” Matteo noted.

Our Motion Graphic Lead Giulio Bertolotti presents the speech about Nimbo, The Visual Agency’s project about data visualization and air quality

Following the introduction, Giulio Bertolotti, our Motion Graphic Lead, captured the audience’s attention with an insightful presentation on Nimbo - TVA’s inhouse project blending video automation, data visualization, and air quality awareness. Nimbo utilizes dynamic motion graphics to present data on air quality across major European cities. The Nimbo characters, automated by The Visual Agency’s KIUU platform, change their behavior based on daily updates of air pollution data collected through the Google API, making environmental data easy to understand and visually engaging.

Alessia Pepe of Bip's Centre of Excellence Sustainability presents the MyVerco project, a series of dashboards to monitor energy use, track sustainability projects and measure overall performance.

Francesca Spina and Alessia Pepe from BIP’s Centre of Excellence for Sustainability were our special guests for the event. They presented MyVerco, a platform designed to help companies track and reduce their carbon emissions. By offering carbon accounting tools and management systems, MyVerco empowers businesses to monitor their progress toward achieving net-zero emissions. Their presentation underscored the vital role that technology plays in environmental sustainability.

The synergy between Nimbo and MyVerco paints a compelling vision for a more sustainable future. While Nimbo engages the public with daily air quality updates, presented through creative motion graphics and storytelling, MyVerco provides companies with the tools they need to measure and actively reduce their carbon footprints. Together, these platforms demonstrate how data visualization and motion design can transform raw data into actionable insights that drive both individual awareness and corporate accountability.
